Leland

Beau

Beau and Leland were both very happy babies, but very different. When Beau learned to walk, he had a look of determination on his face. He seemed to already be focused and practicing. Leland on the other hand, doesn't bother to balance before he steps, he just throws himself at me and I guess hopes for the best. Beau would walk towards things he wanted, Leland will only walk towards his Mama. Beau cried when I laid him down and always woke up crying, Leland is often sitting and clapping at me when I go to get him for his middle of the night nursing. They both are happy kids but I can tell that there is a difference in their joy, Beau is endlessly energetic about his abilities and fascinated with accomplishments- this is where he finds his joy. He is happiest when he is 'exercising' and I have often thought that he would have loved to live years ago when children just ran around outside all of the time. Leland's joy seems to be just from 'being'. He is an easy giggler and if he sees you looking at him, he will even smile through his tears. Now- I'm certain that he will learn to be frustrated but I can tell that he just isn't as intense as my first baby. We tease about his intelligence (although he does know things) because he often has a goofy grin on his face. It is so fascinating and surprising to raise a second baby and realize how different and equally wonderful they are.
